How I learned to overcome my glitter allergy and why I now go to CSD prepared.

It started like so many things in my queer life: with skepticism.

"Pride? That's only for drag queens, muscle gods and people who look like they got lost in the craft store in the morning."

I thought. For years.

Until I stood at the CSD for the first time - slightly overwhelmed, moderately prepared, but suddenly in the middle of a vibrating crowd full of love, beats and abs that made you wonder if they were even eating real food.

My first Pride outfit: a fashionable "no thanks".

I was wearing worn-out denim shorts, a tank top of questionable cut and had exactly zero idea. Next to me, people were dancing in fishnets, glitter, Speedos, sometimes dressed only in confetti - and me? I looked like an intern from a street party.

Then Danny came along.

Danny was one of those guys who just happen to be at a CSD. Glitter in his beard, white mesh top, body language: "I belong here."

He grinned, pulled a small bottle out of his pocket and said dryly:

"You can't get this at the drugstore - the really good stuff is only available here."

He pointed to the website on his wristband: Poppers-Shop.de.

I tried it out - carefully.

And let's put it this way: sometimes all it takes is a good scent (wink) and suddenly you're dancing like nobody's watching. Even if everyone is watching.

Since then: No CSD without my personal Pride kit.

I have a little bag. Nothing big, but worth its weight in gold - the Kinky Leather Bag.

The good scent in it: Crush Super Strong - my little companion bottle for that special CSD moment. Discreet, but effective. And yes - I really only order this from places where people know what's important.

Underwear that makes a statement: I discovered shorts at Poppers-Shop.de that shape, lift and somehow also produce self-confidence.

A really good lubricant: Rush Lube Silicone - no supermarket products. Just the good stuff that doesn't smear like the lip gloss from 2006.

Swimming trunks with attitude: If I'm going to the after-party in the pool (which always happens sooner or later), I want to be ready. Stylish, form-fitting, not too much - but just enough.

What Pride is for me today

It's more than dancing, trucks and techno. It's a visible "I'm here" for all those who don't yet dare.

It's political, emotional and yes, sometimes even a little sexy.

But above all: it's our day.

And I'm celebrating it as I am - with style, attitude and a damn good fragrance in my pocket.
